Project Goal + Challenge:
I had the opportunity to design an interpretation of St. Joan of Arc for the Seek 2025 Catholic Conference on a t-shirt.
There was a need for a design that was more on theme for the conference, and I worked to align an illustrative style with this theme in mind.
Keywords:
Illustration, St. Joan of Arc, & Hope.
Demographics + Visual Inspiration:
This design was for the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND specifically. The conference took place in Salt Lake City, Utah, and it had an attendance of 21,000+ people. The conference was put on by FOCUS and is targeted at young adults.
The Process:
Ideation, sketch, initial draft, modification & final touches.
I chose to include the flames surrounding St. Joan of Arc as a reference to her martyrdom and the quote featured in this design, "Hold the cross high so I may see it through the flames." I used a very illustrative style to depict this design, and this also helped add depth with only using one color. This project was a great opportunity to see how my work translates onto a 3D surface and how to design with user experience in mind.
Outcomes:
Hundreds of students from the University of Mary ended up wearing the sweatshirt that featured the design!
