Depicted below is a mezzotint print done portraying Christ's pierced hand and how new life originates from His crucifixion. A mezzotint print is created using a rocker blade on a copper surface. The blade is rocked over the copper many times until a sandpaper like finish is attained. Once the surface of the plate is roughed up enough, etching tools are used to carve the desired design onto the plate. In this case, I had no idea how long it would take to rock the plate, but the end result was worth it. Mezzotint prints create the opportunity for that rich black velvety end result with high detail.
